Purpose: The purpose of this work was to develop a comprehensive approach when applying leadership and ethical theories towards a strategic process for ethically responsible decision-making. The Minnesota ESST law was examined by using an ethical decision-making model in determining the ethical dilemma this law created. By following the moral compass model, this study demonstrated how purpose, principle, people, and power are impacted when ethical decision-making is compromised and used ineffectively.

Why I Selected This Artifact: This artifact comes from OL 614 and aligns with program learning outcome number six, evaluating the ethical and legal implications of one’s actions. I was able to identify and analyze how organizational leaders across various work sectors were impacted by a law that overstepped current approaches towards unethical employee behavior. When ineffective and unethical decision-making processes are used, relationships across organizations experience loss of trust, respect and uncertainty.

Program Learning Outcome and Course Objective: The artifact shared meets the course objective and program learning outcomes by demonstrating the impact ethical decision-making has on leaders as they navigate through ethical dilemmas within their organizations. By recognizing foundational principles and how they impact analysis and judgement, leaders can integrate approaches towards ethical dilemmas that reflect social justice and community responsibility.
