Purpose: The purpose of this work was to apply a current U.S. business policy influenced by regulatory compliance issues, and examine the various complexities involved in communicating and implementing the policy in another area of the world. This study explored opportunities and obstacles, implications, and legal and ethical considerations the Italian culture faced when attempting to implement anti-corruption laws. Through examination, this study demonstrated how basic assumptions towards values, beliefs, and behaviors impact an organization’s approach when promoting ethical, diverse and inclusive environments.

Why I Selected This Artifact: This artifact comes from OL 635 and aligns with program learning outcome number eight, creating an organizational culture of diversity and inclusion. I was able to analyze how cultural and social changes modeling ethical behavior go beyond expected professional behavior and require the rejection of proposals and policies that are immoral and impractical. While cultures are influenced by unethical behaviors, leaders must model behavior that promotes inclusion, collaboration and integrity.

Program Learning Outcome and Course Objective: The artifact shared meets the course objective and program learning outcomes by demonstrating the effectiveness of ethical stewardship of an organization within a contextual environment. Through increased awareness of social responsibility and global citizenship, cultural influences can impact an organization’s approach to ethical decision-making processes. When leaders implement cultural and social changes that focus on strengthening the legal economy, ethical norms and values align, enhancing a learning community of cultural and global awareness.
